Themes (Epics)

Themes are PushBackLog’s equivalent of epics — a grouping mechanism you can use to organise related backlog items under a common umbrella.

Creating a Theme

  1. Inside a project, open the Themes tab (or click Manage Themes from the backlog toolbar).
  2. Click New Theme.
  3. Enter a title and optional description.
  4. Choose a colour indicator for visual identification in the backlog.
  5. Click Create.

Assigning Items to a Theme

On a backlog item’s detail page, find the Theme field in the right sidebar. Click to open the dropdown and select a theme. An item can belong to only one theme at a time.

Alternatively, bulk-assign items from the backlog list: select multiple items using the checkboxes, then choose Assign theme from the bulk-actions menu.

Filtering by Theme

In the backlog filter bar, select a theme from the Theme filter to show only items in that theme.

Theme Detail Page

Clicking a theme name opens its detail page, which shows:

  • Theme title and description
  • All backlog items assigned to this theme
  • A progress summary: how many items are in each status

Archiving Themes

Once all items in a theme are done, you can archive the theme to remove it from the active theme list. Archived themes and their items remain accessible via a “Show archived” toggle.

Linking Themes to Ideas

Themes can be connected to Ideas in the Idea Log, signalling that the theme emerged from a discovery session. This link is visible on both the theme detail page and the idea detail page.
